To our left, looking northward, we see the great but ugly viaduct which conveys the roadway of Holborn to Newgate, and may recall the fact that John Bunyan died in a house which stood just where the eastern piers of the Bridge stand now. The river was first covered over, between Holborn Bridge and Fleet Bridge, in 1737, when the Stocks
