in the district of Dolj and Maglavit. there are also large *oviet
motorized forces and armored units. Especially in the area of
Timisoara, the d nsity of Soviet troops ig striking. Around the town
are several large parks for T-34 tanks. phe Russians themselves are
mostly in Timisoara itself and it is interesting to note that the
newly arrived Soviet forces, which cam in in late October, are very
much misbehaving againse Especially women and girls are threatened.
and the Soviets are now demanding from the city administration that
so many women and girls be furnished daily for their orgiese This is the
more striking, since the older Yoviet occupation forces were very
strictly held and were as much as is possible on their best behavios.
In the same context it is interesting to note that the city
of Orsova on the Danube has bevn completely evacuated by its population.
It is impossible to know what hap,cned there, Since no civilians are
admitted within five kilometers of the towne The population of Orsova
has been completely dispersed all over the country.
hese and similar military measares are spreading g nuine
panic among the population of the Rumanian-Yugoslav worder. The
nervous population is spreading all sorts of wild rumors, of impending
operations against Yugoslavia. vur observers nevertheless are not
inclined to take such serious view of ev nts. they still belic#e, it
is only another move in the cold war.
