managment felt, that the unions demand were unreasonable and after
some efforts the negociations broke down. The longer the strike
lasted, the more nerves were on ed@e. Communist influence Was un¬
mistakable. Lawlessness and finally riots broke out. The police

nae too weak; the army had to be sent to restore order. After more
then a year the strike finally collapsed and the oni Gas had to accept
ih the employers terms. This result was achieved purely by the iron ner¬
ves of the managment.

The first Division has - since the outbreak of the Korean war ¬
been very active in developing and producing neck LG for defense purposes.
