REPORTS FROM ALBANIA
NOTE: Two highly reliable reports have reached us these
days, both containing details on stratégie movements in Albania.
One report comes from Corfu, the island located off the Greek and 4
Albanian coast: it has been written by a military exnéert,. The other
stems from a Western observer who has just returned from Yugoslavia |
and was able to gather first<had inffrmation from the Albanian
borders Although iss ued from two different aggles, these reports
reach identical conelusions, ;

Throvánut the last few months, inereasing activity has
been reported from the strategic Albanian coast line. Soviet
cargos and planes have been coming in, carrying essential parts
needed by the Albanian navy yerds and not produced in the country
itselfe
Thus, under excivsive Soviet control, svbmarines were
being assembled. Tp to now however they repined within the
well protected Bay of Viones
Important strategic building activities were reported at
the same time, The coastal line and ports were being fortified.
Modern air fields were constructed. Russian exverts had drawn the
pians and supervised the construction of both air and naval bagks,
Russian officérs are in command and have the exclusive control of
the areas
the problem of fuel.
Although Albania has rich petrol wealth, this natural
resources was neglected up to now. In the recent past however s
and aghin under the control and leadership of Russian experts e
minutious prospeection has been carried out, Reguier exploitation
of the pétrol well has already started,
The fiaal step in this development is the establishment
of petrol refineries on Albanian soile Albania being an isolated
Cominform country, can develop its strategic power to its full
value, only if able to cover by its own resources the fuel needed
for air, naval and submarine activities.

The entire plants and the machinery for the refining of
petrol have just reached tke Albania. Constructed in Russia, these
plants and machines were taken, on Soviet cargoes, to Albania's
