nity to point out, that the regime of President Jacobo Arbenz
Guzman was now fuliu dominated by Communist elements, that the
president himself was only a puppet in the hands of the Reds,
and that all hope of retrieving him from the grips of internatio¬
nal Communism short of a genuine revolution in the country should
be shelved, These facts are daiüy implemented by the evolution
of affairs in this country, and are but the renewed proof that the |
warnings of "Intelligence Digest" issued years ago where not, |
as certain people wanted us %to believe, just plain sensationalism
and. alamism.
At present the grip of Communism is getting ever tighter
and every measure of the governement is determined not only to in
crease its control, but also to clear the way for a full seizure
of power by the wholesale arrest and murder of anto-communists.
It is worth noting here, that the Red Spaniards who have the clo¬
sest links with Moscow, are now pushing for a speed up of the
governemental actions, and are demanding absoluie readyness by the
beginning of the autumne This observer does not know whether this
dateline is due to domestic considerations — as he would be in¬
clined to believe - or to intermational considerations, Suffice
it to say, that this was decided during a meeting of Communist
leaders of Central America and the Caribbean area held in the
first week of May in Guatemala City, meeting which was presided
by a special emissary from Russia. This emissary, whose true
