What would happen in the case of a refusal of the Pretender
to accept the ultimatum is, at the present time, still hard .
to say, but, understanding the determination of the Spanish
“leaders to establish a Monarchy, and the ardent desire of
Franco to assure his country's stability by a King, it
should not be ruled out that in case of a renewed refusal,
Spanish Monarchists might be looking in other directions
than their present Dynasty. Such an evolution must be
calculated with, despite the fact that it is not likely
within the next few months.

While ase domestic political actions go on, the
reorganisation and strengthening of the Spanish armed forces
is carried out with skill and energy. Fresh equipment is
expected now any time, from the United States, and already
Spanish offisers have taken various opportunities in various
countries to get acquainted with the modern equipment.
The morale of the Spanish Army is high, the soldiers are
well trained, and the twenty Spanish divisions are a force
of great importance in the present context of the world
situation.
