these orders, and despite the fact that Barcelona is known :
as the most Red city of Spain, with a possible exception of
Oviedo, not one single demonstration of any kind took place,
not one leaflet was circulated, and not one inscription was
made on the walls, People simply did not obey the orders
received from abroad, and even the Communist machine proved

about this attitude of Franco's, and are worrying.a great
deal, but they can do nothing against the General's decision,
and, as one put. it, their only protection that fey can
really get for Franco is to ask God Almighty to protect
him, since he is so hostile to police protection.
Inside of the Spanish Government, the shifts already
noted last year are now even more clearly marked. the
