This world it’s hard to go thro’,
With the ups and downs considering, :
Some folks have some notions in view, |

But I once had industrious ways,

But now I can live at my ease,
Since I joined the new Lazy Society.
When first I enter’d to know what to do,
To rise early I always was willing sir;
But if 1 get up before two 1 was just down,
For the sign of a balling, sir.
The other day as 1 spoke to Jack Cane,
About the blessing attending sobriety ;
Because against a lamp post, ;
1 did not lean 1 was fined by the society.
No. those lines they lay heavy on me, _
So l resolved to sir no more ;
Mywife and my whole family lay snooring,
‘In bed till dinner hour.
e For soap in the house is ne’er seen,
And the house is both dirty and rigidy—
It’s six months since my face it wasclean,
That’s a principal rule in society.
Each day when my dinner is done,
Pm too lazy to stretch out my claw for it;
Its put in my mouth by my son,
And my wife she sits wagging my jaw at it.
I’m too lazy to step down for cloths | have.
A variety in my hat 1 have not a crown;
I’m an ornament to the society. ¬
1 gave my son Bobby a shilling
To go out and bring in some pea-soup for it,
When down in the channel it drop’t,
And the rascal was too lazy to stoo
He gave it a kick with his toe, 5
This—an ofsuch great impropriety ;
When do ‘shore it did drop,
Saying that’s sinking the joys of the so
My wife of who | use’d to brag,
She has turned out a regular fiddler
My clothes she has let go to rags,
. And she says 1’m toe lazy to cudgel her.
As 1 sit by the fire alone,
the sparks from the grate they do fly at me.
But let them burn me to the bone
_, Why should | disgrace the society.
those my woes they daily pass o’er,
lam tired of the house I’m living in:
lliein bedallthe day, — .
rill 1 come home to sing in the evening.
But 1 hope you won t cry out score,
For songs | have a variety— ee
