ter finish today helps a lot in photography, but
artistic way of presentation reveals itself not only
in work-out, but by intuition and choice, too. His
individuality mostly shows in the perception of his
surroundings and in the world he is able to build
and exhibit out of it.
This talent for creation is not his by accident. He
was born in Hódmezővásárhely, in the city where
the way of thinking has been just the same for a
thousand years. Where the Cumanians defeated
in the battle of Hod-Mezé (Hód-Plain) were not
chased away, but were given land so that they
could settle down; where the painter was not sent
away from the farms, but the farmers offered him
something to eat and when he made an exhibition
of his paintings, they went to see it dressed in
their Sunday best. So this is not just a talent but
a valuable gift Janos Eifert was born with, and he
makes a good use of his treasure for the sake of
all of us.
We are happy to greet him again here in his ho¬
metown, whereto he comes every year. All that he
has got from this land and from these people and
has made world famous he now gives back to us. We
reach for each others hands during this exhibition.
We have been living together with him in the same
ark this sixty-three years.
