ret XeAon0e10. for December 1952. RePCRT FROM EAST GERMANY. Of all the matters of importance which happen in East uermany, none is of a more decisive nature than the rearmament of Russia's German satellite. it is interesting to know that, while the fast German authorities make not the slightest secret of their gigantic military effort, in fact boast about it in the great public, the kest seems not aware or is unwilling to learn of this very grvat Lastern menace. ‘omehow the trained observer cannot avoid sesing that there is a frightful parallel between what happens in wermany right under our eyes and what happened in Korea only a few years agoe it seems hence to the observer that the time has come for a full summarizing report on. the Last German Army, as it unfolds from a multitude of intelligence reportSe hence this study will be solely devoted to the question of the military organization in last Germany. in doing this, we shall first report on the military schools which exist in Hast termany; then on the Armed Forces as such of the Hast German Hepubiic, namely the border police or elite force of the regime, the Volkspolizei or the land army of tre regime, the air force and finally the navyj these observations will be ended by the report on the commanding personnel of these forcese it shouid be first f all understood that up to this very moment the armed forces of Mast wvermany ar only a cadree ,he old von Seeckt Plan has be:n adopted to the new conditions. Consequently what is a soldier today is the non-commissioned officer of tomorrow; the non-com issioned officers and ratings of today are the officers of toymorrow; the officers of today are slated to fill commanding posts much higher than their present rank in the army of tomorrow. nence, the training is a very progressive one; especially for the of icers.e +he infantry schools for officers lie in voebeln, Erfurt and Naumburg. jhe armoured car 6$ficers are trained in Priemerwald near Guestrowe 4he technical forces! officers receive their training in Puenfeichen, while artillery officers' schools exist in Gloewen, Jueterbog and Zeithain. ,be central intelligence school for officers and non-commissioned officers is in Pirna, while especial academy for military doctops has besn established in neipzige It is interesting to note that in each of these schools the learning of Russian is obligatory. There are ten hours of political educatio:. weekly, besides the very progressive military education. The Navy school is located in Berlin-Wilhelmsrufh The Air Force school is in Kottbus and in Johannisthal. Officers, who show promising qualities for leadership are first sent to the Hoehere Volkspolizei-Schule in Kochstedt, which is under the direction of former German General Freytag.
