KohebaOCte 520 — page four the operations of the Council of Free Czechoslovakia in the Unis ted States, The misgiving is due to two main reasins : first, that the most prominent men of the Council where guilty of eoliabora= tion with the Comaunists, of support of Rssie all during the war, and that they eliminated all those elements from the Council who where identiaccaly opposed to Hitler and Stalin, like the Members of the largest Czech Party, the Agrarians, of the Party of frades and the right wing of the Catholic People's Party 3; second that most of the leaders of the Council are Imowm to be actively non religious people, several being suspected of outright hostis lity to the Churches, Since most of the opposition to the regime comes from the religious element, this is probably the gravest sinzle error, if one d@es not think of the systematical hostility of the Council towards the Siovak patriots, A grave sign of this Christian opvosition is found in two recent events : first, an article in the leading Catholie Czech paper in America, “Katolik" which takes a stand against the Council 3 second, the refusal of the Pope to receive Dre Hubert Ripka, one of the lead -rs of the Council. Both these facts are widely knownin the contry end have made a good impression heree 18.
