Having always enjoyed a unique and favored regime, they live with their families in modern comfortable homes, separated from the rest of the working populatione Their payment and rations are much higher thah that of other employees. Their children receive favorable treatment in education. They work in laboratories, testing grounds, important industriald@ centers; mostly in the Crimea, East Prussia, the Baltic region and Norther Siberia, They perform atomic, electronic and rada@ researches; they construct and test the new types of guided missiles, planes, weapons and bombs. Thus it becomes clear that all the key positions in the forthcoming German Army will be placed only in hands of most reliable agents: the fanatics coming the Free German Youth will form the future officers, pilots and the elite troops; the People's Police will give the ready-made caders for the regular army3 the specialized staff of scientists and skilled people will continue to direct and prepare the military production, But even these trusted groups are no’ left to their own devices, Everywhere Russian officers ar scientist appear side-by-side with them, in higher or at least in equal positio. And the political supervision by the secret volice does not stop at army rank or scientific achievement. As to the rank-and-file of the 375,000 troops of Eastern Germany's future Army, they are reeruited now by “volunteering”, soon xakex by regular conscription. The reeruits are mostly veterans of World War II., students and the youth new employed in regular jobs. In opposition to Communistic Youth and People's Police eaders, they have not as yet been entrusted with using heavy weapons or anything that has to do with air activities. It has been frequently speculated upon whether, in view of pleasing the enroled veterans, the most outstanding generals of the Wehrmacht would be called upon to take positions in commanding posts. This however is not the case. Generals like von Paulus, von Seydlitz, Sehoerner etés, are not permitted to command German forces; their talents are used in their capacity as direct advisors to the Russian general staff.
